The Watershed Coalition of the Lehigh Valley grew out of the work of the Green Valley Coalition, a group of involved stakeholders who joined forces in the late 1990’s to advocate on behalf of smart growth and natural resource conservation in the Lehigh Valley. In 2010, the Board of the Green Valley Coalition made the decision to reorganize the group to create an umbrella coalition representing all the community-based Watershed Associations. The mission of the Watershed Coalition of the Lehigh Valley is to preserve and enhance the watersheds of the Lehigh Valley. The Coalition pursues its mission through outreach and education, resource and information sharing, and advocacy on key issues critical to regional water resource health.
Because watersheds do not align with political boundaries, we also work over a wider geography than the two-county Lehigh Valley area. The Watershed Coalition is a founding, and sustaining partner in the statewide Master Watershed Steward Program, and is deeply involved in the strategic development of the program as it expands across the Commonwealth. The Coalition works regionally, throughout the Delaware River Watershed, to engage communities and protect resources. Some of our work reaches northwards, into the Poconos, engaging with watershed organizations and resource protection in the northern Lehigh River watershed.
